Teaser Tuesdays (3.2.10)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
A Thousand Splendid SunsMy reading was a little haphazard this weekend - I kind of flitted from one thing to the next before settling on A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. This is a reread for the Flashback Challenge, and from the minute I opened it I remembered why it's one of my favorite books. I have a used copy of this book, so when I opened it up to a random page to find a teaser I was immediately drawn to a couple of sentences that had been underlined by the previous owner - I guess someone thought they were important! Enjoy!
The Soviets are gone, but he still has the guns, and now he's turning them on innocent people like your parents. And he calls this jihad. What a farce! What does jihad have to do with killing women and children? (p190)

    13. I love to find books with underlining or notes in the margins. I do this all the time to my own books and I love to discover the notes of others and think about why the previous owner/reader thought those lines were important.

    15. I loved both of his books! Did you read The Kite Runner? It was even better than A Thousand Splendid Suns (I thought)....but both of his books...such a powerful punch he puts into his writing without any effort it seems. Such a beautiful writer. Ahh, makes me want to go pull out my copies of both books again and start all over! but wait, I went to the bookstore today....and came out with 2 big bags (shhh, don't tell anyone - least of all my wallet!)
